Who am I?

I’m Rodney Sam- a avid genealogist, history buff and writer who has been exploring his family history for nearly 25 years. My day job is helping customers discover their family history at one of the largest family history libraries in the United States.

Why do I start this page?

I started this page to tell the stories of my ancestors and other people from the past and combine my love affair with writing and family history. One of the values of exploring our individual pasts is telling the stories of the unknown and marginalized buried in the records. Doing so not only enhances our understanding of the past, but also helps us understand who we are as humans and society and how we got to be where we are.

What kind of stories will you find here?

I will highlight the stories of my ancestors and other people I’ve uncovered over the years whose lives not only reflect the historical context of their time, but exposes how complex and nuanced history and it’s not as black or white as we think it is. I will tell history from the lens of a family historian and writer.
